We had a family dinner to celebrate my sister's birthday, Caroline. I decided to go back to the place we had dinner the week before, which is Ikan Bakar at Alai. We really enjoyed the food there, fresh seafood and best part, it was really cheap!
Daddy looking very serious, haha he didn't know it was for the blog. Taken with the birthday girl, Caroline.
"Otak-otak bakar" (brain-brain) haha, no it's just fish paste with some chili paste blended together for details please see the photo below.
Nasi lemak bungkus. I think I had 2 packets but Belle probably had 4 packets? haha
Dipping sauce. Sweet sauce with some freshly cut onions and some lime juice. A must to go with ikan bakar.

Me and Laura.
The otak-otak that I was talking about earlier. It was wrapped in the leaves and bbq-ed or burnt over charcoal. It was pretty good. I think tasted like those from Muar. Costed Rm0.60 each/ per stick.

First dish: Mussels in sweet and sour sauce. It was okay, but I found the mussels a little too small and thin. I prefer the bigger ones. But it was seriously cheap, like a full huge plate for Rm8!

We had a whole fish and they cut half and cooked it into 2 different styles. First one was Ikan siakap goreng sambal. Basically fried fish with sambal sauce. Oh the fish was really sweet and tasted really fresh. We loved the sauce, spicy and yet tasty. It complimented the nasi lemak bungkus really well!
Look at how juicy the fish was.
Closer view.
The other half was baked over charcoal grill with banana leave and covered with sambal (a type of chilli paste).
After removing the banana leave, this was delicious too.

Fried calamaris with chili sauce dipping. It was seriously cheap also, a huge plate and it costed probably around Rm12. I love this place!
