Hanging out in Beeston

Thanks to my dear friend Felicia who brought me here for some Thai food last year in 2008, I kept coming back to this place whenever we fancy a Thai. It's located pretty close to Laughton's home, probably about 10-15 minutes drive to Beeston. They do pretty good lunch deals at 4.50 pounds for a main course.

Thai green curry chicken with egg fried rice. I love it, very good! The place is run by Thai people and maybe that is why the food tastes really authentic! Good sign.

I think they do a really delicious Pad Thai here.

I found this hilarious and made him pose with a Look-look Asian fondue stall in Beeston. We call it Satay Celup back at home, in Malaysia. Laughton hates it after being down with food poisoning when he visited Melaka last year.
Beeston town is quite lovely, got plenty of nice little Asian restaurants around and we always get our groceries from the Asian supermarket nearby. Plenty of Asian students too as this place is very close to Nottingham University, so you get a lot of students renting in this town.

Finally a white Christmas in England!

Merry Christmas everyone and have a blessed New Year's!

There has been only one Christmas - the rest are anniversaries. ~W.J. Cameron

White Christmas in Nottingham. A photo taken just at home just before Christmas. Looks pretty isn't it?

My second consecutive Christmas in Nottingham. Hope there will be many more to come!
Just like excited little kids unwrapping gifts!
Laughton posing with his new dressing gown, a hat and some wash kit from Ted Baker! Looking smart.
My new wool beret from Santa!

We had a good time with the family and hope everyone had a great time also!

May the spirit of Christmas bring you peace,
The gladness of Christmas give you hope,
The warmth of Christmas grant you love.

Cheers,

Wendy.

Our Civil Wedding & Reception!

To all my fellow friends, apologies for the lack of update as I had been really busy in the whole month of November. I was busy planning a wedding and also holidays for my folks when they came to visit for two weeks. After that, we went to Rome, Italy for a holiday after sending off my parents and my little sister back to Malaysia. Anyway, I had a friend who was asking me if I stopped my blog because I have not been updating it for quite a bit. Haha, been really busy that is why. I had been posting photos on Facebook instead because that is so much quicker and easier to do since I had been on the go the past one month with all the holidays. Hopefully things will be less crazy as we have to start the paperwork to apply for my PR and also going to London again this Sunday to find a flat so we can move to London before Christmas and get everything settled and then back to Nottingham again to spend Christmas before Laughton starts his new job in January in London. Sounds hectic!

Okay, a brief summary of our special day!

Date: November 18th, 2009
Venue: Hart's Restaurant luncheon followed by civil wedding ceremony at the Shakespeare Street, Nottingham Register Office and reception at Victoria Pub in Beeston.

Everything went so quickly and we barely had enough time to take good photos. Anyway we managed a couple and this one was taken just before we went into the ceremony room.

My friend Sue-May, our witness that came all the way from Manchester. She used to be my primary school mate. Very sweet of her to join us on that day!

Night time reception at Victoria. Had a very nice and tasty wedding cake made by Laughton's aunty.

Have a good one everybody!!

Cheers,

Wendy

Parties and fish & chips

October 16th, 2009 Alex's 60th Birthday party at the local pub, The Manor. I didn't manage to take a photo with Alex that night so I got myself a photo with Laughton instead! Haha.

And another with Gil. ;)
My regular local fish & chips from the take-away place nearby. Pretty good stuff, though tastes better with some Lingham's chilli sauce. ;)

Trip to Bath, England Part 2

Trip to Bath, continued..
Oct 28th, 2009

Apologies for this super back-dated post. Found it sitting in my draft post and decided to put them up today. :)

This photo was taken right in the middle of the city of Bath. Bath became a World Heritage Site in 1987 and most of the buildings in Bath are made from the local, golden-coloured Bath Stone, and many date from the 18th and 19th century.

River Avon, Bath. Absolutely beautiful view!

Ben! Cutest little boy!!
Outside the Bath Abbey.
Roman Bath.
Inside the Bath Abbey.

I couldn't decide which was better looking.
Messing around at the Roman Bath. A must visit when you come to Bath!
Quite tempted to jump in!
Thinking what to do next..

I find audio guided tours boring, no doubt they are very informative. But very hard for me to concentrate, I get distracted way too easily!
See ya guys soon!

Weekend trip to Bath, England Part 1

Trip to Bath Oct 18th-20th

Laughton arranged this short trip for us to visit his friend in Bath and also to take me to Bath since I have not been there yet. It was quite a long way drive to Bath and it looked really pretty and picturesque during our way into town. We went out to the local pub nearby for a drink and then went back home to Bernie & Pete's for dinner. We headed out quite early the next day (yeah around half past 11) and then headed to do some sight-seeing around the city of Bath.

Ben & me. He is just so cute!!

We were at the Royal Crescent Houses to start with. Weather was really lovely and so good for walking around.

One of the oldest round-abouts here. The houses are built in a shape of a circle, quite unique really.

I heard you find many pigs like this around Bath, well I only found one so far.
Just walking around the shops.
We bumped into this sausage place, I was quite amazed with the various types of sausages. But didn't get to try any. :(
They even do Bath sausages! Wow! Maybe we could start making Malacca or Kuala Lumpur sausages back at home.
I see this quite often in England. Faggots; I didn't know you could price them! Ha ha
Anyway, I have yet to try some faggots.
We went into the Bath Abbey too.
Just walking into the Roman bath entrance. 2 and a half men.
Stay tuned for the next part on the Roman bath!

Curry Mile in Manchester

Drove up to Manchester for dinner at the Curry Mile (basically a long road with plenty Indian restaurants on both sides) and then off to the airport to pick his parents. I was well impressed with the number of South Asian restaurants located along both sides of the street. The Curry Mile is a nickname for the part of Wilmslow Road running through Rusholme. But the largest concentration would be the Indian curry houses. I saw quite a lot of take-aways and kebab houses too.

I like the restaurants here, particularly this one where we dined at. Friendly waiter got us a table almost immediately as we walked in, unlike the one we went in Notts where the waiter was quite arrogant and gave us THE look when we said we didn't make any reservations. Try telling my friends and family back at home, whoever needs to book for a curry ever? Ridiculous. Anyway, we were browsing through the menu and minute later we got our drinks and the papadum, even before ordering them. I like it because I was really starving from the journey from Notts that took 3,123 hours (maybe not that long, did take longer than usual due to the road works and heavy Friday traffic). Check out the stuff that came with our papadum. I love the mango chutneys! Papadum was crispy and not oily, unlike the ones covered with grease at the curry place in Notts.
Pulau rice was really good and I enjoyed it a lot along with my curries.
We had the chicken Jalfrezi and this was easily the best I have ever had. Very original and had some thick sauce. A bit spicy too.
Next up was the lamb Madras, very good and quite spicy too. Proper curry should taste some spiciness if they should be spicy. Not like some curry houses where they claim its spicy but I really find them bland. I had a "token one drop sweat" that night, acknowledging that the curries were a little spicy and it's good.
I took a picture of this for Belle to show her how they serve the naan bread here. Haha I found them ridiculous and super funny, reminded me of a restaurant in the Gordon Ramsay- Kitchen Nightmares programme on a curry house in Notts sometime back. He hated the naan bread stand. I still can't accept this stand, why??? Anyway, the bread didn't taste good, still miles away from Pak Putra in Melaka. Good value for money, bill came just under 20quid including drinks (no alcohol).
Happy pleased face with a proper curry for dinner. I was tempted to order a chicken Vindaloo for dessert. :P
