Dinner at Yashi

June 23, 2009

After postponing dinner at Yashi since last Friday, we finally decided to just go with dinner today (Monday, June 23) despite the heavy shower forecasted and weather will be even worse the whole week, filled with thunderstorms and even gales. I was unprepared for dinner and I just got Zeiti's e-mail saying she booked dinner. I was quite skeptical to be honest, as I was not really keen on getting soaked through on his Vespa all the way to town and back again. Well, since Zeiti is leaving for holiday and weather was due to be even worse, I thought yeah, let's do it! Miraculously we saw some sunshine and it did not rain at all until late that night where we heard the wind howling and rain pouring until the very next morning.
Anyway for a start, this is my (our) favourite sushi bar in Bermuda and I really love the food here. Prepared by our fellow Malaysian chef, Alan; he makes the best sushi, not just in town alright! He is a very nice guy and a good friend of mine also!

Complimentary salad with some dressing. Just some sliced lettuce, tomato and a mayo-like sauce. Not too sure, never bothered to ask. But its the sauce is nice.

Japanese green peas, served warm slightly salted (I can't remember what this is called in Japanese). I have never tried this and hey, it was really good. They were sweet and slightly salted. Nice appetiser before proceeding to the rest as you will see below.

Complimentary from our Chef. I am not sure what fish is this but it was grilled and garnished with some special sauce and they were pretty good I must say. Squeeze some lemon on top of the fish and then dip it with some special white sauce. Yummy!

Chef's starter. A sushi roll with spicy tuna wrapped up with seaweed then fried with some batter and sliced. Topped up with some seaweed and ebiko with some special sauce; then complimented with some finely shredded deep fried crabstick. This is definitely my favourite starter and we have this all the time when we come here for dinner. A must order!

Close up look. Its super delicious!

We ordered six types of sashimi to share among us. Salmon, octopus, peppered tuna, local wahoo, yellowtail and tuna sashimi served with wasabi and sliced ginger were really fresh and good! I don't usually favour tuna but i take them here in Yashi cause they are really good.
A close up look at the peppered tuna on my plate. It's beautiful and tasted really good too.

Sliced octopus sashimi with some lemon juice.
Aizul ordered Spicy dragon roll. Unagi, avocadoes, seaweed with some spicy tuna.
We had two orders of Number One roll. This is my favourite! Absolutely delicious! With local wahoo, shrimp and topped up with seaweed and special sauce. Yummy!!!

Chef's special roll. With unagi, seaweed topped up with ebikko and special sauce. Not my favourite especially because for unknown reasons, I do not take unagi at all. I used to love them but just don't and can't take them.
Closer look. They are pretty tasty though.
The gang that night. Daleena, Aizul, Zeiti and me.

Me and Laughton.

We were really greedy cause we had dessert at home. Ben & Jerry's chunky monkey. I think this has become Laughton's favourite ice-cream. Banana ice cream layered with caramel, some nuts and chunky pieces of chocolate. Mmmm delicious!!

Fort Hamilton, Bermuda

July 21st, 2009

Fort Hamilton

Situated on a hilltop on the outskirts of Hamilton this pentagonal fort makes a decent retreat from the hustle and bustle of the city. Was built in the 1870's to defend against possible attacks by American forces, also offers good views of the capital and ships in the Hamilton Harbour. The moat which surrounds the fort has been transformed into a garden, with palm trees, palmettos and other trees and plants. Check out the photos we took belows for the beautiful views of the capital and the harbour.
