Carbonara for dinner

June 12th, 2009

My 2nd day in Bermuda and I got Laughton to cook me dinner; my favourite Carbonara! I took some photos in the process of making the carbonara. I have not had Italian food since I left Bermuda simply because I think he makes the best pasta so I don't usually have pasta in other restaurants.
This is a very special and memorable shot simply because this was the first ever photo taken by Laughton with our new Nikon Slr. After almost four months, he finally get to see and take a couple of photos with new camera.

One of the key ingredients- eggs.
Grated parmesan cheese.
Eggs beaten and mixed with some pepper and cheese.
I was quite impressed by the size of the onion. Bermuda onion! Bermuda is quite famous for their onions.

Chef Laughton at work. I can never slice onions as patiently and finely as he does, all the time.
Pasta on the boil..
English bacon fried with sauteed onions.
The happy chef at work. Ha ha.
Took some time out for a photo.
I think he is happy because I am here. Right, Laughton?
Just a shot taken in the kitchen.
Pasta is almost ready for dinner..
Now ready after topping up with some grated cheese.
Cheers!

Super pleased with my Carbonara!! Yay!
Bermuda's famous Ginger beer. I really love it! It's great taste and especially when you mix it with some Bermuda Gosling Rum- they call it Dark & Stormy drink.

Lunch at the Reefs, Southampton

June 15th, 2009

We went to Horseshoe Bay earlier for a swim and snorkeling around 10am and the beach was starting to get packed with tourists and the weather was absolutely great. Not too hot but still enough to get myself some tan (which I am not too pleased about) and mainly because Laughton wanted to get some color on him; which proved to be a challenge because he just looked a little pink after swimming and that was it! I was at least 2 shades darker from where I already was at. The water felt a bit cold initially and boy, the sea was rough and the strong currents made it really difficult for us to swim. We had to beware while snokerling because we were quite close to the rocks and the waves were just too strong and afraid of hitting us onto the rocks. Anyway it was still quite pleasant and we saw some nice fishes there at Horseshoe Bay. I love to swim here, the sand with pink hues and the clear blue waters made it look like almost a postcard!

Horseshoe Bay. This was earlier taken from my compact camera, can't wait to get some nice ones with the new SLR. Will post them up later! And these are taken during winter, when there's not even a single person in it! Really pretty!!

The beach was filled with tourists enjoying their day out by the beach in summer time.

After that we headed home to take shower and we went back to South Shore again and took a ride up to Southampton parish to the Reefs for lunch.

Overlooking the Atlantic ocean, the Reefs is actually a nice place to have lunch in, I like the view.

My summer holiday in Bermuda!!

Hello to my fellow readers, greetings from Hamilton, Bermuda. After almost 40 hours of gruelling flight time I am finally here in Bermuda! I had to fly from KLIA-Taipei-Los Angeles-Phillidelphia-Bermuda and I am very thankful that I managed to get here safely and also my bags. I was treated to a very nice dinner while having a long stop-over in Los Angeles airport by a very good friend of mine, Genna. She came to fetch me out to dinner before I continued my flight to Philly. It was very nice to catch up with her and to break the waiting time as I reached LAX around 12:45pm and my next flight was only leaving at 10:30pm. Well, it was a crazy journey, but definitely worthwhile one!

My breakfast cooked by Laughton. Fried sausages, toasts, baked beans and omelettes with mushroom and cheese. Haha, I kinda missed this breakfast because I haven't had this since I got back to Malaysia!
Upon discovering the gift I bought for him from Malaysia. He was just like a little boy so excited with his toy.. A remote-controlled helicopter!
The man by the books. He was actually trying to read the manual. I told him that is not necessary and I just took the heli and the control and I got it working! Expert I know, but haha I just wanted to prove to him that it was working.
Close look at the heli. It had multi-colored lights blinkings too! super cute!
Starting to get the hang of it.
Oh, I think he broke something..
Anyway, this is me chilling by the pool at the current place we are staying. I love the idea of the pool, it gives a calming effect and it takes your mind off many many things. I wish I could have a pool in my house next time! Its a bit small, but I love the depth, it stretches from 3ft and drops of to about 8-10 feet deep. Nice!

Getting ready to head out to town for a little tour around the island.

I think this is the first picture taken of Laughton and his new place since he moved in couple of months back.
The balcony, if you look close enough, you can see a few birds' nests up on it. I don't like the idea honestly, it is the landlord's idea. The bird droppings are everywhere! Plus they chirp non-stop and I just think it's quite noisy plus I am not a fan of birds. So I'm kinda freaked out!
Just look at how beautiful the pool is. Its decent sized one for a home, no doubt. Especially at night time, the moonlight actually reflects the light and it hits the pool, and I could see right at the bottom of the pool and it is absolutely beautiful!

Tandoori chicken and naan for dinner

June 4th, 2009

My parents and I went to Pak Putra's for tandoori and naan and I can't wait to pig out before I head for my summer vacation to Bermuda. I seriously love the naan bread here, the best ever! Same goes for the chicken tandoori. Perfectly done!

Standard, regular naan. The texture of the naan is so good here, so soft and so perfect when dipped with the curry sauce or just eaten plain. For Rm2 you can get this. Awesome!
We ordered the garlic butter naan and it was delicious too! This probably costed slightly more than Rm2 but less than Rm3 I am pretty sure. For all garlic and butter lovers out there, give this a try. They do have many other types of naan, my brother told me to try the double cheese naan, I will probably post more pics when I come back from Bermuda if I get a chance to try them.
Here comes the killer! Perfectly done tandoori chicken. Tasted great and juicy! Cost around Rm7 I think?
Butter chicken. Gravy like curry sauce, it is not spicy, very mild. Very delicious taste to it. For Rm 6.
Lamb roganjosh. I would say it is slightly spicier than the butter chicken. Very nice taste to it and the lamb was quite tender and I would love to take Laughton here for all these dishes because I know for sure he will love it! Cost around Rm7.
Our mini feast. Will definitely miss this place when I move over to England. :(

Roti John @ Melaka

June 8th, 2009

I recently remembered about this roti john's place in Melaka- Roti John Puteri Erra (located somewhere across Majestic Hotel) where I used to buy them from many many years ago and told mum about it a couple of days back. She got my dad to pack it for us one night and it tasted exactly like it used to be! Delicious!!

Roti john is basically a type of french stick (softer) and cut into half and then with omelette and onion stuffing and also stuffed with some shredded cabbage, chilli sauce and mayonaisse in the middle. The bread is very crispy as seen in the pictures below and a box like that (probably half of the French stick) costs about Rm2. I seriously think that this was the best Rm2 anyone could ever spend on! I can't wait to go home and have this again! Yay!!

According to my younger sister Belle, this place is closed on Tuesdays. Please correct me if I am wrong. Cheers and have a good one!
